Center for Contemporary History and Policy - Current trends through a historical lens

Emerging Technologies

New and emerging technologies shape both our world and the resources available to us. What issues can (and do) arise regarding their use? The projects in this area examine and explore the attempts, development, dissemination, and integration of new sciences and technologies, as well as attempts to create regulatory regimes for such new technologies as nanotechnology. We develop and use historical and contemporary case studies and other qualitative research approaches to generate deeper dialogue on the social, cultural, and policy concerns relevant to their creation.

Goals:

  1. Explore and provide access to resources relevant to the study of emerging technologies.
  2. Generate discussion and produce an interested community network.
  3. Act as a leading resource on emerging technology research and debate.
  4. Reach out to other programs with areas of common interest.
