Fine Art
Art and science may seem an unlikely pair, but in fact science and scientists have been the subject of art for centuries. CHF collects art related specifically to the chemical and molecular sciences.
Artistic depictions of alchemy
More than 90 paintings and 200 works on paper compose the Eddleman and Fisher collections. These works range from the 17th to the 19th century and reveal the fascinating world of the alchemists. In their pursuit of the elusive philosophers’ stone, the alchemists created a body of practical knowledge about the material world through their experiments and lab work, setting the stage for modern chemistry.
Portraits
This collection includes stunning original portraits of Robert Boyle, Joseph Priestley, and other prominent figures in the history of chemistry.
Satirical prints
Numerous engravings and etchings by 18th-century English satirists show that not even a man of science was immune to a good political skewering during those revolutionary times.
