New Permanent Exhibit Space at CHF
The Chemical Heritage Foundation is currently undergoing a major renovation of the first and second floors of the 1865 portion of its building. The space underwent demolition in 2006; reconstruction began in January 2007, and the space is scheduled to open in fall of 2008.
Abundant new exhibit space
The exhibit space is divided into two galleries: The Masao Horiba Exhibit Hall and the Clifford C. Hach Gallery.
Housed in the Horiba Hall, the Beckman Permanent Exhibit will showcase CHF's unique collections of art, instrumentation, rare books, and archives:
- Along the wall visitors will experience significant stories in the history of the chemical and molecular sciences, including the story of the pH meter, the development of synthetics, and the chemical history behind electronics;
- Large vitrines will feature some of the impressive 20th-century analytical instrumentation from CHF's collections;
- The center of the room will feature a dynamic and interactive media column that will encourage visitors to explore the chemical and molecular sciences through video, imagery, and animation.
The Hach Gallery will offer traveling exhibits along with special exhibitions of CHF's fine art and rare books. Molecules That Matter, the first exhibit scheduled to appear, will be a traveling exhibit created in collaboration with the Frances Young Tang Teaching Museum and Art Gallery at Skidmore College.
Extensive conference facilities
The E. I. du Pont Conference Center will be a multi-use space with six conference rooms offering prime views of Philadelphia's historic Old City district. The conference center will accommodate up to 180 people at any given time and will be available for various meetings and events.
